Portraits of forgotten friends…

Electric cable, Junction box, Humbrol enamel paint – 222 Midnight Blue
2021, 125cm x 60cm
A half century after an abrupt name change (I was Mark Hill) and relocation, age nine, I have no memories or photographs of any of those specific friends. I remember the language and activities, gangs of swearing kids, obsessed with finding scrap metal and burning things. People on my Little Hulton council estate had been relocated during slum clearance in Salford, so old activities in a new place. Here we have outline portraits of my forgotten friends using a salvaged material sought at the time, mains electric cable with scale model paint.
